There are often situations where your customer cannot pay for your goods or services because they do not know how to use cryptocurrency and do not have a wallet. This is where the On-ramp feature comes in handy – it allows purchases to be made in cryptocurrency using a familiar bank card. Your customers can comfortably make purchases, while you continue to receive payments in the crypto that is most convenient for you. So, let's discuss how this feature is implemented in the Cryptadium payment system and why it is popular among our current merchants.
What is On-ramp
In the cryptocurrency sphere, this term refers to the ability to convert traditional fiat money into cryptocurrencies in real-time. Special ATMs for exchanging fiat money for cryptocurrency are also considered On-ramp solutions. However, they are not very numerous worldwide. Additionally, these ATMs have limitations both in terms of available fiat money and the cryptocurrencies available for exchange.
On-ramp serves as a transitional bridge between the traditional financial system and cryptocurrencies. This function is particularly useful for new users of crypto assets or those who only want to explore them in practice. Not everyone is knowledgeable about exchanges, swap services, and other aspects, but everyone has fiat money.
This is why Cryptadium decided to implement such a feature, expanding the capabilities of stores that accept payments in cryptocurrency.
Advantages of the On-ramp Feature
- Expanding the potential customer base – now even those without a crypto wallet or the ability to fund it before a purchase can make purchases in cryptocurrency. Simple and fast connection – within one day.
- For your customers, there is no risk of paying in the wrong cryptocurrency and/or network, where payments might get stuck in the system.
- It also eliminates the risk of incorrect payment amounts, including not accounting for the blockchain commission, significantly reducing the number of underpaid payments.
How to Connect On-ramp in Cryptadium
- After registering a Personal Account and undergoing registration and verification, go to the "Store Connection → Shop Management" section and click on the toggle next to the "Fiat Payment on the Cryptadium Form" field.
- Next, contact technical support by email at [email protected] for the actual connection of the option. If your company's jurisdiction matches the supported countries/regions, a Cryptadium OTP employee will ask you for a list of documents to undergo the mandatory KYB (Know Your Business) procedure on the partner's side that provides the On-ramp functionality.
- If the KYB procedure is successfully completed, the employee will enable this functionality for your Personal Account and notify you. A block with the option to pay by card will then appear on your payment form.
How Payment is Made Using On-ramp
1. To make a payment in cryptocurrency using a bank card on your site, the customer must add a product to the cart, select Cryptadium as the payment method, and click the "Pay" button.
2. A payment form will open. To continue, the customer must enter their email, check the box agreeing to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, and click the "Pay" button.
3. A cryptocurrency payment gateway window will then open. To pay by card, click the "Pay with Card" button at the bottom of the form. A window will open with the payment amount in fiat currency, as well as fields for entering card details.
4. Fiat funds go through the On-ramp system, are converted into the required cryptocurrency (in which the payment was made). The exchange rate can vary at different times, and it is impossible to predict due to the technical specifics of the exchange operation.
5. The funds are then credited to a temporary Cryptadium wallet, where the payment is checked for compliance with the initial parameters. Afterwards, the funds are credited to the balance in the Personal Account in the cryptocurrency in which the payment was made, and your client sees a notification of successful payment on the site.
Commission for Using On-ramp
When using this feature, the commission per payment will average 4.85%, of which 3.95% is the commission of the service providing the On-ramp functionality, and 0.9% is the commission for Cryptadium crypto processing.
The size of the commission depends on many factors – the size of the transaction, geolocation, type of fiat currency, type of cryptocurrency, payment method, etc. For instance, for transactions up to 40-50 EUR, the commission can vary on average from 3.95% to 10%. This is due to the need to cover the costs of acquiring fees for processing small amounts. The general rule is: the lower the transaction size, the higher the On-ramp acquiring commission, and vice versa.
